RR Lyraes, the Magellanic Clouds, Distance Scales and Popuation Gradients

ABSTRACT

Methods of determining RR Lyrae absolute magnitudes will be briefly reviewed. This distance scale will then be compared with others using results from both Magellanic Clouds. Recent results from type II Cepheids will be included. A mean radial period gradient is found in the OGLEIII LMC data, consistent with a classical picture of galaxy evolution. This result will be compared with that from AGB stars.
