ABSTRACT

The outer halo is a particularly useful place to test the paradigm of the hierarchical growth of structure, since most stars there were likely accreted into the halo. The SEGUE survey has enabled us to identify significantly larger samples of halo giants out to 100 kpc. I will discuss new results on the metallicity distribution in the outer halo and compare inner and outer halo properties. In addition, almost all previous metallicity studies of the Sagittarius streams have been biased because they used M giants; I will contrast these results with ours from the less metallicity-biased K giants.
