ABSTRACT

We present the preliminary results of an Image-subtraction analysis for the understudied Galactic globular cluster M79. We found 6 new RR Lyrae, and also recovered 3 previously known RR Lyrae, according to Clement's catalogue (2009). The average period of the 5 RRab is ~ 0.68 d, which corresponds to an Oosterhoff II classification. This result challenges the association with the Canis Majoris overdensity, of which it has been claim to have extragalactic origin.
